Biography & Metadata
Internationally acclaimed artist Hempress Sativa channels the spirit of the griots through a voice rich with pathos, embodying music as a revolutionary force. Her lyrics are rooted in consciousness and resistance, carrying a spiritual and militant energy that honours her heritage while pushing beyond sonic boundaries. Born Kerida Johnson to Rastafarian parents, she was raised immersed in roots reggae, dub, and the rhythms of Nyabinghi drumming — a foundation that continues to shape her sound and message. Over the years, she has collaborated with influential artists such as Tribal Seeds (“Wicked and Riled”), and reggae icons Sister Carol and Mumma Nancy (“Top Rank Queen”). Her collaboration with Paolo Baldini DubFiles on the track “Boom (Wah Da Da Deng)” has become a standout hit, further solidifying her presence on the international reggae and dub scene. In March 2026, she releases Woman, a new album produced by Paolo Baldini DubFiles and released via La Tempesta Dub, further expanding her sonic identity and deepening her connection with the global dub and reggae community.
