Midnight Mystery Club is the creative pact between best friends David Paul Newell and Llavar Mindley, a project born from a shared obsession with surrealism in the twilight hour. Together, they craft a world where nostalgia and futurism exist outside of space and time. The story began when David returned to California’s Central Coast after a season as a Nashville audio engineer for icons like Taylor Swift. By night, he produced bedroom electronic tracks that eventually caught the ear of Ibiza legends The Shapeshifters, sparking a whirlwind era of songwriting for the European house scene. The project’s heart truly began to beat, however, after a chance encounter with professional touring drummer Llavar Mindley. A veteran who anchored the rhythm for soul icon William Bell, Llavar brought a human pulse to David’s dreamscapes. Their partnership, rooted in “playing hooky” from the traditional industry, has become a global sanctuary for the lonely and the weary. Drawing from the DNA of heroes like Sade, Fleetwood Mac, and Peter Gabriel, MMC rejects polished perfection for "intentional ear candy" designed for long night drives and sun-drenched Balearic sunsets. Whether reimagining classics like Phil Collins’ If Leaving Me is Easy or exploring the surrealist edges of indie dance, MMC remains committed to one goal: creating a space between a faint memory and a lucid dream.
