Biography & Metadata
Few voices have left a mark on German heavy metal quite like Udo Dirkschneider. As co-founder and frontman of ACCEPT, he helped write metal history with landmark albums including Breaker, Restless And Wild and Balls To The Wall. In 1987, U.D.O. was born. The debut Animal House was followed by classics such as Mean Machine, Faceless World and Timebomb. After a return to ACCEPT, Dirkschneider revived U.D.O. with Solid in 1997. The band built its legacy with albums including Holy, Man And Machine, Mastercutor, Dominator, Steelhammer, Steelfactory, Game Over and Touchdown, alongside countless tours worldwide. In 2020, U.D.O. explored new territory with We Are One, a collaboration with the Concert Band of the German Armed Forces. In 2023, former ACCEPT bassist Peter Baltes joined the band, reuniting two musicians whose shared history reaches back to the formative years of German heavy metal. Today, alongside drummer Sven Dirkschneider and guitarists Fabian “Dee” Dammers and Alen Brentini, he continues the U.D.O. story. In September 2026, Dirkschneider’s hometown of Wuppertal launched the Udo Dirkschneider Music Award (UDMA) to support young musicians. 2027 marks a triple anniversary: Udo Dirkschneider’s 75th birthday, 40 years of U.D.O., and the band’s 20th studio album, Voodoo Ranger, released via Reigning Phoenix Music. Three milestones celebrating a remarkable legacy while U.D.O. continue to look ahead.
