Ashnaa

Tamil-British singer Ashnaa emerges from a Carnatic background, which has strongly influenced her style. She is an upcoming independent artist, who is passionate about experimenting with a wide range of musical genres to see what new sounds she can bring to the music industry. She has released her debut single ‘Irudhi Tharunam’, which begins her journey of creating powerful music that deeply connects with her listeners, and is currently working on an EP that explores the genres of R&B, Neo-Soul, Carnatic and Jazz. 
 In 2017, Ashnaa won an award for “Musician of the Year”, at the “National Indian Arts Awards”, conducted by Milapfest. 
 In 2018, Ashnaa collaborated with Roxanna Panufnik, on a piece called “Unending Love”, that was a response to a commission from the National Youth Choir GB, requesting a Tagore setting with accompaniment by the traditional South Asian ensemble Tarang, for which she was the soloist Carnatic singer for. Panufnik based the work’s harmonies on Indian ragas: 'I was eager to explore a multitude of kaleidoscopic Indian modes and instruments,' she says. 
 In 2021, she collaborated with the virtuoso Sarod player Soumik Datta, on a powerful project called “Silent Spaces”, including the renowned cellist Matthew Barley. She then went on to tour with Soumik’s band as the lead singer for “Songs of the Earth”, performing in multiple locations around the UK, and also in the ‘Elbphilharmonie’ concert hall in Hamburg, Germany.
