Biography & Metadata
When the Berlin artist meteorically entered the jazz scene in the early 2000s, she quickly made it clear that the term jazz was too narrow for her. Over the years, she founded the Lisa Bassenge Trio, the nu-jazz band Micatone and the electro-chanson project Nylon, sometimes presenting herself as a popular song interpreter, then as a Hildegard Knef adept or even as a club icon. Since many years Lisa Bassenge has created a new musical and stable environment for herself. Her internationally cast trio, consisting of the Swedish pianist Jacob Karlzon and the Danish bassist Andreas Lang, digs deep into the world of great songs. With this trio she already released albums such as Borrowed and Blue (2018), Mothers (20220) and Wildflowers (2023). The songs cover music from Joni Mitchell, Warren Zevon, Carole King, Loretta Lynn, Bob Dylan, Suzanne Vega and many more. Her follow-up album “Two Whole Summers – Half A Life” is possibly the darkest in terms of sound and choice of titles. In her interpretations of the Duran Duran classic Ordinary world, Jimmy Webb’s Wichita Lineman or Between the bars from Elliot Smith and even her own song Two whole summers, half a life she relies on her versatile and exceptionally soulful voice. First-class singer-songwriter jazz with depth and poetry. Her music has always remained young and has a high recognition value thanks to her unique voice. Music for people without stereotypes in their minds.
