Biography & Metadata

Eyes wide open, sensory overstimulation. Blooming fields, floating planets - you feel the heartbeat as pure as in the womb. Is this real? On „Rebirth“, Germany-based Jazz musician & composer Johannes Arzberger tells the mesmerizing sci-fictional story of an abstract existence exploring a dystopian world, visually accompanied by captivating episodes of a lonely astronaut. “Rebirth” is the brainchild of Johannes Arzberger, Salomon Appiah aka 7apes and Michael McFly. The latter two, both exceptional producers, multi-instrumentalists and composers in their own right, took the sketches and ideas that Arzberger had created on a hybrid of vintage and -modular synths and samplers, added their own vibe and shaped them into the arrangements and compositions that ended up on the album. In addition, with Silvan Strauss featuring on two of the songs - “Waves” & “Sirens” - they bagged the extraordinary drumming from one of the most stellar and reputable drummers of the contemporary European jazz-scene. The artistic language of the album—fluid, fragmented, intuitive—serves as the starting point for a creative idea that explores the natural cycle of life - a loop that is never identical, yet always connected. Over the course of 13 instrumental songs, Johannes Arzberger has created an artistic infinitum, steadily blurring the worlds of playful Jazz, Hip-Hop, IDM & Trip-Hop. Thus, “Rebirth” gained heavy recognition in the making and is funded by official German Initiative Musik.
