Sam Burchfield

‘Is it all too much to carry?’ asks Sam Burchfield, in the opening line of his forthcoming album. ‘Do you ever fall apart?’ His sandy vocals shimmer over a psychedelic wash of instruments—flute, fiddle, and melodica among them. ‘Only time stands between us / Every season comes to teach us.’ Bright, colorful, and inviting, his new album is the sound of Burchfield in bloom. Burchfield returned to producers Ryan Plumley and Jason Kingsland (Delta Spirit, Deerhunter) at Studio 1093 in Athens, Georgia to record his eighth full-length. In pursuit of his most expansive sound to date, he enlisted a full band including Ben Hackett (Drive-By Truckers), Robby Handley (Larkin Poe), and Marlon Patton (Mitski) among others. The result is kinetic and lush, his earthy guitar playing infused with orchestral swells, spacey synths, and bursts of cinematic flair. Burchfield’s previous releases have gathered acclaim from major tastemakers for their warmth and spiritual vibrancy, and fueled extensive touring as both headliner and support for the likes of Max McNown, Wilderado, The Strumbellas, Evan Honer and more. ‘Every Season’ is Burchfield’s second release on Cloverdale Records.
