Biography & Metadata
Born in Rome, Alessandro Viale is an eclectic musician who believes in the artist as a well-rounded person, active in society. After degrees in Piano, Composition, Conducting and Harpsichord (and one cum laude in Physics), he studied chamber music at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and then moved to London, where he worked at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and at Trinity Laban. He now lives in Switzerland and is Head of Music and Head of Boarding at the Ecole d'Humanité, a progressive international school in the Bernese Alps, where he keeps exploring the connections between creativity, intellectual rigour and social commitment. Contemporary music is at the centre of his work: he performs it, commissions it and brings it to new listeners. With the violinist Rebecca Raimondi he founded the Ardorè Duo, whose recording of David Collins's Violin Sonatas (Sheva) was widely praised; he also plays in the Rest Ensemble and, as a harpsichordist, in Il Quadro Animato. He has conducted orchestras and choirs, accompanied musicians in international competitions, written a film score and premiered many pieces written for him. His recordings include Peter Seabourne's "Steps volume 5: Sixteen Scenes before a Crucifixion", acclaimed by Gramophone, Piano News and Musical Opinion; the minimalist anthology "Minimal Works"; "Tales Beyond the Screen" (2024); the Satie album "Unfathomable Sweetness" (2026); and "Six for Piano" (2026), six new works by Roman composers.
