A popular actress best known for acclaimed roles in Lost in Translation, Match Point, and as Black Widow in the Marvel Universe, Scarlett Johansson has also pursued a music career. Born November 22, 1984, Johansson became interested in acting at a young age and studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute for Young People. After making her stage debut opposite Ethan Hawke in the off-Broadway production Sophistry, she appeared in films including The Horse Whisperer (1998), Ghost World (2001), and Eight-Legged Freaks (2002). Her performances in Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) brought major critical acclaim and worldwide recognition. Around 2005, Johansson expanded into music after being considered for an Andrew Lloyd Webber production of The Sound of Music. In 2006, she sang “Summertime” on the charity album Unexpected Dreams: Songs from the Stars, and later performed live with the Jesus and Mary Chain at Coachella. She then recorded her debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head (2008), produced by Dave Sitek and featuring Tom Waits covers plus appearances by David Bowie. In 2009, Johansson teamed with Pete Yorn for the duet album Break Up. She later appeared on several soundtracks, including The Jungle Book and Sing in 2016. Johansson also formed the pop group Singles in 2015 with Este Haim, Julia Haltigan, Holly Miranda, and Kendra Morris. In 2018, she reunited with Pete Yorn for the EP Apart, featuring the single “Bad Dreams.” ~ Matt Collar
