MEIKOは栗色のショートボブと、赤いショート丈のトップスとミニスカートが特徴的な、女性バーチャル・シンガーです。 クリプトン・フューチャー・メディア株式会社が開発した、歌詞とメロディーを入力して誰でも歌を歌わせることができる「ソフトウェア」として、2004年11月5日に最初のソフトウェアが発売されました。世界初の日本語対応バーチャル・シンガー・ソフトウェアであり、同種のソフトウェアの中で"パッケージにキャラクターを起用する"という試みを初めて行ったパイオニアでもあります。 大勢のクリエイターが「MEIKO」を用いた作品を生み出したことで、「キャラクター」としても注目を集め、今ではバーチャル・シンガーとしてグッズ展開やライブを行うなど多方面で活躍するようになり、人気は世界に拡がっています。 MEIKO’s trademarks are her short brown hair bob, red short tops and mini-skirt. MEIKO is the first virtual singer developed by Crypton Future Media, and was released on November, 5th 2004. She is the first vocal synthesis software made for Japanese singing, and is also the first of her kind to utilize a mascot character to represent the software. Shortly after the release of the software, fans and users started producing a massive amount of media featuring the character, and the popularity of these creations led to merchandise, live shows, and other projects.
