Biography & Metadata

Hutch's life is "marked by obsessions, healthy and unhealthy" - and jazz piano was the first. Feeling like an "outsider" amongst those his own age, drugs and drinking became a quick way to find connection, replacing music as a means of escape - but the chaos of addiction crept in quietly, eating away at purpose and joy. Sobriety didn't come through luck, but surrender. He withdrew completely and accepted that he had to change everything in his life. "I took myself away. You can't build from the middle of chaos". Hutch's second single Coasting is an honest portrait of endurance. "Coasting is about being in denial when I was younger: I knew I needed to change but struggled to break away from toxic patterns. The song and video tell the story of the inner turmoil & battle that nobody else saw at the time. Ultimately I kept everything to myself, all the things I didn’t wanna share with people and the ongoing damage it was doing. Now I totally realise the importance of being kind to yourself, about sharing your truth no matter how dark it is and reaching out to others for help. Essentially no one should suffer alone and in silence."
