Biography & Metadata

Chewing is the solo moniker for Los Angeles musician & visual artist, Nik Ewing, best known for his critically acclaimed band Local Natives. ‘Songs For Linnéa’ is a collection of minimal piano songs written for his child. “When my daughter was born, I played piano for her almost daily. This album is for her, to have a document of the music from the beginning of her life.” Quintet (Live in Los Angeles) is a recording of Chewing’s debut concert; an improv, free jam by Nik, Dave Harrington (DARKSIDE), Spencer Zahn, Griffin Goldsmith (Dawes) & his Local Natives bandmate Ryan Hahn, with support from BBC6. Local Natives have consistently captivated across six widely celebrated LPs (which Nik is the de facto visual director of) including their gold status singles “Dark Days” & “When Am I Gonna Lose You” which cracked the Top 10 on Billboard’s Alternative charts. They’ve quietly generated nearly a billion streams, sold out legendary venues such as The Greek Theatre & Red Rocks Amphitheater, and performed multiple memorable sets at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits & more. His 2019 debut album ‘Pacific Ocean Blue’ is a dark, liberal cover of Dennis Wilson's 1977 album in its entirety, featuring Cults, Nico Segal, POP ETC & of course his entire band, which earned praise from Billboard, Under the Radar and spins on KEXP & KUTX. Remixes for Cold War Kids, Local Natives & Peel followed.
