Sara Andon

Sara Andon is among the most active flutists in the Los Angeles area, appearing at classical venues, including those devoted to new music, and on film and video game soundtracks. She is also a significant educator. Andon has a long list of film credits dating as far back as the early '80s. In 2024, she was featured on the album John Williams Reimagined. Andon was born in Colton, California, in 1964 and has spent much of her life in the eastern suburbs of Los Angeles. She attended Colton High School, graduating in 1982, and California State University, San Bernardino, majoring in flute performance and music education. Andon went on to the University of Southern California for a master's degree in flute performance, studying with Janet Ferguson, Roger Stevens, and James Walker. Andon earned an Artist Diploma from Yale University, where her principal teacher was Ransom Wilson. She also had master classes from Jeanne Baxtresser, Julius Baker, Walfrid Kujala, and other prominent flutists. While still a student, Andon was already appearing on film soundtracks, including that for the science fiction film Tron (1982). Andon's activities have been unusually varied. She has appeared with leading orchestras in the Los Angeles area and beyond, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife in the Canary Islands, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Andon has performed in Broadway musical orchestras, including those for Beauty and the Beast, Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, and the Los Angeles company of Wicked. She is often associated with the Disney studio but has worked for many other organizations on television (including Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard) and documentary soundtracks, as well as in films. Her recordings include work with leading film composers on such soundtracks as Crazy Rich Asians, Straight Outta Compton, and The Jungle Book. Her work as a classical soloist and chamber player has taken her as far afield as Poland (at the Tauron Arena in Kraków), Greece, and China, and she has appeared in such major halls as Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York, and St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Andon is a member of the Brightworks New Music Ensemble in Los Angeles. Her video game credits include Journey, World of Warcraft, and League of Legends, and she has performed with the San Diego Symphony in its Video Games Live concert at the San Diego Comic-Con. Andon has been a featured artist on several major-label recordings, including Cinema Morricone: An Intimate Celebration (2019) and John Williams Reimagined (2024).
