Biography & Metadata
HotWax are visceral. Elemental. Their sound cooked up in a crucible of teen hormones, hard graft tours, and sheer soaring talent, then honed and refined by miles clocked on the road and triumphant shows. Their blend of 90s sludge and heavy riffs spiked with post-punk melody and hooks sounds huge, both on stage and on record. But at its core is a tenderness, an emotional depth. They snarl, but they cry and grin too. At the heart of the group beats the friendship-til-death of Lola Sam (bass) and Tallulah Sim-Savage (vocals/guitar). The Hastings pair have played together since the age of 12, growing up on stages, perfecting their performance and poise, growing their creative talents. Brighton’s Alfie Sayers (drums) was the final piece of the jigsaw, the ignition that lit a rapid ascent. In 2022 Tallulah and Lola left school, and by March 2023 they had signed to Marathon Artists and Transgressive publishing. Two EPs followed; A Thousand Times and Invite Me, Kindly, and over the next three years, the band became road warriors, clocking up over 300? The touring didn’t sand off the edges; it sharpened them. They became louder without being dumber, tight without losing danger. Their initial scuzz and chaos refined through graft and tour mileage. With experience, their well of emotions deepened even further, and they grew. Became slashing and blooming rock stars.
