Biography & Metadata
Aaron Parks (b. 1983) is an American pianist and composer whose work bridges the lyricism of jazz tradition with an exploratory modern sensibility. He first came to international attention as a member of Terence Blanchard’s ensemble, appearing on several acclaimed recordings including the Grammy-winning A Tale of God’s Will (A Requiem for Katrina). His Blue Note debut Invisible Cinema (2008) introduced a distinctive compositional voice marked by narrative depth and textural imagination. Since then, Parks has built a diverse body of work across labels including ECM, Ropeadope, and Blue Note, from the introspective solo album Arborescence and the trio recording Find the Way (with Ben Street and Billy Hart) to the genre-defying Little Big series. His latest Blue Note release, By All Means (2025), reunites Street and Hart with tenor saxophonist Ben Solomon. Parks’s music is recognized for its melodic clarity, harmonic subtlety, and immersive sense of atmosphere. Drawing from post-bop, electronic, ambient, and folk influences, he continues to shape a body of work that is both grounded and forward-looking — balancing emotional immediacy with compositional sophistication, and introspection with creative openness.
