¡Bacalao!

¡Bacalao! is an alternative reggae/dancehall collective based in London. The members hail from the British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, St Lucia, The Netherlands, Nigeria and the UK. ¡Bacalao! is pushing the envelope and contributing a fresh and authentic new ‘sonic pallet’ to the musical landscape with their genre bending fluidity. Under the expert guidance of Amsterdam born and bred executive producer AKA Block the individual artists unite under the flag of community and collaboration. Spearhead members AKA Block and Archi Silas met during a studio session hosted by fellow musician Bikoko. Silas invited Block around to collaborator calmzulu’s house a few weeks later. More of a creative refuge than your average London home, calmzulu facilitated the space for ¡Bacalao! to sprout into the cultural combine it is today. Call it luck or divine intervention, which ever one you choose, most of the members met each other that night over the stove as reggae’s love child elevatetoday was cooking curry for the new collective that was yet to realize itself. Archi Silas, AKA Block,elevatetoday, Bobzilla, calmzulu, Aleshinloko, Asher Kaliym, Micco & sonofthesouth are all artist in their own right who can be found at their monthly cookouts chanting ¡Bacalao!’s mantra: “This is an invitation for association through collaboration.”
