Firmament

In 2012, siblings Eric and Brandon Carbenia formed Firmament in Canton, OH with Alex Herstine on bass and Matt Spradling on drums. In 2016, the financially struggling band embarked on a transformative journey into Northern California to fund their debut, Spirit of Place. The trip introduced Firmament to a diverse array of individuals, from enigmatic figures suspected of cartel ties to a shape-shifting yogi and a pot farmer living on the infamous murder mountain. "Spirit of Place" was released in 2016, in collaboration with producer Eric Emery. It garnered critical acclaim, earning praise from PROG magazine, album of the year nominations, and a dedicated fanbase. During a hiatus, Eric and Brandon relocated to Austin, Texas where they formed the psychedelic prog rock group "Temple Garden" alongside James Cosner. Their adventures led them to various spiritual enclaves, including a drum circle promising astral journeys with ancestors, an invocation of Horus with a secret society in New Orleans, and a Native American Medicine Man who gifted them a catlinite pipe. More recently, they stayed with an apocalyptic sect of Hare Krishnas in West Virginia. Returning to Ohio, Firmament, remaining a Duo, underwent a renaissance, infusing their music with elements drawn from eclectic encounters and personal introspection. Their creative journey encompasses a diverse tapestry of experiences, woven into an accessible modern rock package with a progressive edge.
