Ries

RIES is the artist project of composer and producer Peter Ries. Classically trained in piano and harmony, with studies in church organ, I have been writing, composing, and producing music for decades. In recent years, I have created instrumental and neoclassical sound worlds under my own name. While I am known for instrumental music, RIES is the space where my lyrics find a voice. The project brings together intimate songwriting, ambient atmospheres, electronic textures and contemporary production. For RIES, I use an AI-generated vocal as a creative instrument, alongside my own writing, composition, and production. I think of RIES as a kind of sung poetry — reflections on thoughts and emotions that remain unspoken. Inner struggles, old wounds, vulnerability, hope, self-worth, healing, and the quiet realizations that can change the way we see ourselves and the world around us. When I started making music, there were no DAWs and no computers in the studio as we know them today. I still remember my fascination when the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 appeared in 1978 — suddenly technology was opening doors that had simply not existed before. That sense of curiosity has stayed with me ever since. Music and technology have always evolved together. I embrace that evolution while keeping the human idea, emotion, and artistic direction at the center. Cinematic, intimate, and slightly out of reach, RIES is where I create songs that feel like memories from dreams not yet lived.
