Straight out of Surrey, BC, Chani Nattan has quietly built himself into one of Punjabi music’s most recognised lyricists. No shortcuts, no industry blueprint — just years of putting words together and letting the records speak. From penning Diljit Dosanjh’s “Umbrella” to creating the global breakout “Daku” alongside Inderpal Moga, Chani’s catalogue has travelled a long way from Surrey. Records like “8 ASLE,” “Noormahal,” “Facetime” and “COOLIN” have helped cement his name, with “8 ASLE” reaching the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 and “COOLIN,” alongside Jazzy B and Inderpal Moga, earning a JUNO nomination. Along the way he’s worked with names including Diljit Dosanjh, Jazzy B, Sukha, AR Paisley, Intense and TVGUCCI — bridging Punjabi music with the sound and attitude of the city that raised him.
