Sankofa

The journey begins with Sankofa’s mother playing and dancing to records around the house when he was growing up. “There was never life without music,” the Indiana artist says. After being introduced to Hip-Hop and falling in love with the methods of creation, the scratching of the DJ, “a sound so alien to me that I was transfixed and drawn further into what it could be.” Sankofa breaks down. Fast forward and Sankofa found himself saving money to purchase the 7” to one of the records that put him onto Hip-Hop and thus his destiny was sealed. Sankofa’s creations are rooted in the raw poetry of the artform while presenting a varied delivery over all kinds of production. “My sound is built upon the bedrock of all the rappers whose tapes and CDs I inhaled as a fan,” Sankofa explains. His debut album ‘The Rosetta Stone’ set the foundation for everything Sankofa’s creating right now, he can string words together effortlessly, but he’s also willing to be reflective and introspective, relating directly to the listener.
