Dominguinhos is an artist of Brazilian Popular Music , one of the greatest names in Brazilian music, forró, and Brazil’s Northeast, and one of the great accordionists in the world. Born in Garanhuns, Pernambuco, his work brings together Northeastern roots, harmonic sophistication, popular lyricism, and rare musicality: refined without losing its roots. His artistic path is deeply connected to Luiz Gonzaga, his master and artistic godfather, who recognized early the strength of that boy with the eight-button accordion. From that encounter, Dominguinhos expanded the language of baião, xote, frevo, and Northeastern rhythms, becoming a central figure in projecting forró and Brazil’s June festivities into Brazilian music. His accordion travels from choro to popular music, from forró to jazz, revealing an extensive and musically rich body of work. Dominguinhos crosses recordings and repertoires by central MPB artists such as Elba Ramalho, Gilberto Gil, Djavan, Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, Chico Buarque, Fagner, and many others. His songbook includes “Gostoso Demais,” “Eu Só Quero um Xodó,” “Lamento Sertanejo,” “De Volta pro Aconchego,” “Isso Aqui Tá Bom Demais,” “Quem Me Levará Sou Eu,” and “Retrato da Vida.” His recognition includes two Latin Grammy wins: Chegando de Mansinho (2002), and Iluminado Dominguinhos (Ao Vivo), in 2012, Dominguinhos remains a living symbol of the Brazilian accordion, leaving an eternal legacy for future generations.
