Biography & Metadata
DJ Koze, born Stefan Kozalla in Marrakech, is a German DJ and producer known for his genre-defying psychedelic electronic music. He began in the 1990s with the hip-hop group Fischmob and later co-founded the electronic pop project International Pony. His solo albums Amygdala (2013) and Knock Knock (2018) received critical acclaim, featuring Caribou, Apparat, and Róisín Murphy. The single “Pick Up” became a global hit. Known for his remixes, Koze reworked tracks like Matthew Herbert’s “It’s Only” and Moderat’s “Bad Kingdom” into classics. Through his label Pampa Records, he supports underground artists. In 2023, he produced Róisín Murphy’s Hit Parade, her highest-charting album, and released the Wespennest EP, his first solo work since 2018. His album Music Can Hear Us (April 4, 2025) entered the German charts at #4 and received widespread critical acclaim, with praise from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Wall Street Journal, Musikexpress, Resident Advisor, Groove, Diffus, MINT, HHV Mag, and BEAT. It also earned multiple Album of the Year placements: #1 Süddeutsche Zeitung and Byte.FM, #2 BR2 Zündfunk, #5 Tonspion and radioeins, #12 Rolling Stone Germany, #15 Billboard Dance Albums, and #23 PopMatters, plus mentions in year-end lists by Musikexpress, GQ UK, Lodown, and Qobuz.
