Biography & Metadata

A multifaceted composer (film and television, modern dance, computer, and chamber music) as well as an Emmy-winning sound editor, Jeremy Zuckerman is best known for his suspenseful orchestral music for various animated fantasy-action franchises. A main composer, with Benjamin Wynn, on the original Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series (2005-2008), he went on to work on shows such as The Legend of Korra (2012-2014, with Wynn), Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness (2011-2016), and the film Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender (2026). Zuckerman is also a founding member of the composer collective the Echo Society. Born in Orange County, New York, Zuckerman had piano lessons from his mother beginning at age five, and he later picked up guitar and synthesizers while playing in bands as a teenager and young adult. As an undergraduate at the Berklee College of Music, he studied jazz theory and learned about computer music from Richard Boulanger. He then earned an MFA in new media composition from the California Institute of the Arts, where he studied privately with Morton Subotnick. Zuckerman teamed up with composer Benjamin Wynn (they were sometimes credited as the Track Team) to start his scoring career in the mid-2000s, including some film and animated TV shorts. Zuckerman and Wynn's first major series and significant breakthrough came with all three seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008). Their first film was the 2009 comedy-drama Just Peck. (The Last Airbender got proper season-by-season soundtrack releases in the mid-2020s.) Meanwhile, Zuckerman worked with choreographer Benjamin Levy on modern dance projects including Everyone, Intimate, Alone, Visibly; Khoas; and The Impermanent Sky. He also worked in theater and penned an experimental opera titled Orpheus Crawling that premiered in 2007. Zuckerman stayed busy from that point on, particularly in animation, collaborating with Wynn on The Legend of Korra (2012-2014), resulting in a Top Ten placement on the Billboard soundtracks chart, and on Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness (2011-2016), which garnered them 2012 and 2015 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Sound Editing -- Animation. Their partnership soon dissolved, and Zuckerman began working on episodes of the PBS documentary series Nature, on the MTV and VH1 series Scream, and was also sole composer on the feature documentaries Beartrek (2016) and Stuntman (2018). He worked on over a dozen episodes of Unsolved Mysteries in the early to mid-2020s, and teamed up with William J. Youngman for 2025's A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read. In the meantime, Zuckerman co-founded the Los Angeles-based composer collective the Echo Society (with Brendan Angelides, Judson Crane, Nathan Johnson, Rob Simonsen, Joe Trapanese, and Wynn), and his 2025 computer music album Growtree Collaborations featured a different guest collaborator on each piece. He was credited as sole composer of the 2026 animated film Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
