Biography & Metadata

Daniil Trifonov is one of the defining pianists of his generation, combining breathtaking virtuosity with poetic imagination and a deeply personal musical voice. Martha Argerich famously described his playing as possessing “everything and more”, with a touch capable of both tenderness and demonic intensity. A Deutsche Grammophon exclusive artist since 2013, Trifonov has received a Grammy, six Grammy nominations, the Gramophone Artist of the Year award, Musical America’s Artist of the Year title and an OPUS Klassik award. His wide-ranging discography includes works by Bach, Chopin, Liszt, Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin and Shostakovich. Recent projects include Silver Age, Bach: The Art of Life, Rachmaninoff for Two with Sergei Babayan and My American Story – North. His musical journey through the Americas continues with Mi Historia Americana – Sur, exploring music from Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Peru and Argentina. Trifonov is also an accomplished composer. His First Piano Concerto, premiered in 2014, has since been performed internationally, including at Carnegie Hall. Whether performing familiar masterpieces or uncovering new repertoire, Trifonov brings extraordinary imagination, curiosity and intensity to the piano.
