Biography & Metadata

Markandeya is the solo project of Swedish musician, songwriter and producer Marcus Berg. With a musical journey spanning more than two decades, his work moves between roots, dub, folk, electronics and acoustic music — carried by a distinctive voice and a fascination with sound as a space for connection. First emerging as founder and lead singer of acclaimed Swedish roots band Kultiration, he later co-founded Colombian-Swedish project Minük, whose debut *Aurora* (2020) was praised by Higher Plain Music as “one of the best albums of 2020.” As Markandeya, releases such as *Vision Dubs* explore deep hypnotic dub alongside acoustic songwriting, devotion and electronic production. Selected collaborators include Horace Andy, Cedric Myton (The Congos), Alex Serra, Nicola Cruz, El Búho and Mirabai Ceiba. Following 60+ shows across Europe and beyond, including two European tours opening for Hang Massive, Markandeya has shared stages and bills with The Wailers, Sam Garrett, Julian Marley and Groundation. His forthcoming album, recorded partly in Jamaica, expands his soulful dub-rooted sound. At its heart is a vision of oneness, shaped by many years of study within the Advaita Vedanta tradition in India — music as a space for connection, presence and devotion.
