Muco

Born in London to British and Burundian/Rwandan parents, Muco (pronounced Moo-cho) is a singer, songwriter and producer whose music is inspired by a love of language and storytelling. His latest project 'Summer Crossing', blends influences from his dual heritage, featuring lyrics in Middle and Old English with the instrumentation of the 'Inanga ' (a zither from Burundi/Rwanda). His work, under the project name 'Book of Voices' combines lyrics and influences from Old, Middle, and Modern English, as well as French, Swahili, and Kirundi, reflecting his deep interest in the interconnection of folk traditions across cultures. His previous albums 'Between Two Gardens' and 'Notebook (blue)’ were written alongside longtime friend, guitarist and musical collaborator Arun Thavasothy. These songs possess a ghostly, transparent sound, inhabiting an imaginative and unearthly place, and draw upon tales from myth, folklore and classic literature. Travelling a lot as a child in East Africa and around Europe, Muco developed a thoughtful, exploratory personality which takes shape in his music. His lyrics talk about nature, solace, the senses, and the joy of imagination.
