Biography & Metadata

Icona Pop has always represented ultimate freedom of expression for its two members and longtime friends, Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo. That freedom has underscored their impact as one of pop's most innovative, multiplatinum chart-topping forces. Their third album, Ritual, is about ownership — owning who they are as mothers, creative partners, entrepreneurs, leaders, sisters, and women. These women are running the dancefloor now. Caroline and Aino went from club kids in Stockholm to commanding clubs, arenas, and festivals. Following an independent grind, Icona Pop broke through in 2012 with "I Love It" [feat. Charli XCX], a generational banger that went RIAA 5x-Platinum, sold over 10 million digital singles, and surpassed 1.2 billion Spotify streams. After their Gold-certified debut, This Is… Icona Pop (2013), they notched two more Gold singles, headlined sold-out tours, and supported Miley Cyrus, One Direction, The Chainsmokers, and Avicii. They've appeared on The Tonight Show, Today, GMA, and America's Got Talent, plus HBO's Girls, SNL, and as Satin and Chenille in the Trolls films. With Joel Corry, Galantis, and Sofi Tukker as collaborators, their sophomore album Club Romantech (2023) earned acclaim from The Guardian, Forbes, Bustle, Rolling Stone, and Pitchfork. Now, on Ritual, the spirit of sisterhood shines brighter than ever — late-night club rhythms, emotional synths, and bittersweet, raw pop melodies. It's the sound of two women reclaiming their artistry and lives.
