[- No Boxes -] --- Glad Tidings To The Strangers --- OMAR AWBU is a Palestinian-American recording artist, writer, producer, DJ, and lawyer born in metro-Detroit and now based in the UAE. His work often includes unorthodox production and sharp lyricism fused with elements of hip-hop, house, Arabic, soul, electronic, and spoken word; the natural result of a life spent moving between cultures, identities, and worlds. Omar first earned recognition in Detroit’s underground scene under the former alias “bigOmuziq” through various victories at freestyle competitions and the release of multiple mixtapes. After stepping away for several years, Omar began releasing independent singles in 2022 under the name “OMAR AWBU”, and has continued building a body of work defined by reinvention and creative freedom. Omar has performed at and collaborated with numerous festivals, cultural institutions, and independent venues across the U.S. and SWANA region, including Dally in the Alley, Takin’ It To The Streets, Quoz Arts Fest, The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi, and The Emirates Literature Foundation. Known for precise delivery and an electric stage presence, his live sets weave music, poetry, production (and sometimes DJing) into continuous mixes, creating experiences that connect across cultures.
