Raumhafen 81

Michael Schacht aka Raumhafen 81, is a german composer and experimentalist from Frankfurt. He also produces calm ambient music through his main project, Metric System 1981. In the 1980s, Michael released predominantly Berlin School–influenced electronic music during the peak of the cassette underground. All recordings were analog, created with a Fostex tape deck, Korg MS-20, MS-50, SQ-10, and a distinctive vocoder. Some of his cassette releases were distributed by a legendary Berlin shop, whose owner is famously known as “Der wahre Heino.” After a long hiatus, Michael revived his projects in 2020, continuing to explore with Raumhafen 81 his interpretation of poetic contemporary electronic music in the tradition of “Kosmische Musik.” Through his social media presence on Instagram, Salon Blanc / Salon Noire, he not only shares the latest news about his own music and collaborations, but also highlights new releases and works by other ambient artists. By day, Michael works full-time as a award winning board game designer.
