Brock Hewitt: Stories in Sound

A peaceful pause in a hurried age — that hearts may rest, and hope arise + Brock Hewitt is a composer, Anglican deacon and the founder of Stories in Sound Studios near Toronto. Gaining early experience as an intern at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions in Santa Monica, Brock learned important lessons that shaped his understanding of how music is crafted for film. Brock's music moves between neoclassical, ambient, cinematic and minimalist languages—distilling musical ideas into clear structures where repetition, space, power and restraint become central elements of expression. Piano, chamber strings, voice, and hybrid orchestral elements are treated as the main materials in his musical colour palette. Rather than separating sacred and secular practice, Brock’s work allows them to overlap with an "old world" feel. His role as an Anglican deacon informs an approach to composition that is shaped by liturgical thinking and a focus on the transcendent. This perspective gives his music a distinctive sense of prayerful stillness, serenity and eternal peace.
