Biography & Metadata

A popular, politically charged ska-punk outfit from Minsk, Belarus, Lyapis Trubetskoy were founded in 1990 by frontman (and sole constant member) Siarhei Mikhalok. For over two decades the band managed to balance commercial success with underground credibility, releasing over a dozen studio albums, amassing a huge arsenal of videos, and winning multiple awards both at home and abroad. In early 2014, just one year after the release of their 13th album, Matrioshka, Mikhalok announced that the band was officially calling it quits. Lyapis Trubetskoy held their final concert at the Valeriy Lobanovskyi Dynamo Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine later that summer. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
