Kjetil Jerve

Kjetil Jerve is a Norwegian pianist and composer with a substantial catalog of hypnotic solo piano pieces. A freely improvised session with jazz heavyweights Drew Gress and Jimmy Halperin became New York Improvisations; for HARMONIC CONSCIOUSNESS, he wrote the music and directed a twelve-player ensemble including Kit Downes. For more than a decade, Jerve has played Chet Baker in Norwegian with Baker Hansen, a fixture on Norway’s jazz circuit and one of the country’s busiest jazz bands. With Doydank, he makes J Dilla-informed beat tapes as Everhaunt; the forthcoming album features Kristoffer Eikrem, bringing the three back together. Jerve’s piano trio with bassist Jon Rune Strøm and Bigbang drummer Olaf Olsen makes its public debut in Oslo in October 2026. Photos (1+5) by Elisabeth A.
