Biography & Metadata

Zimbabwean-born, Johannesburg-based artist Hanna blends sharp lyricism, uplifting energy and emotional honesty into a sound that is both deeply personal and universally relatable. Of Ethiopian and Zimbabwean heritage, she began sharing rap videos while studying at UCT in 2018, leading to early recognition through Mr Eazi’s #emPawa100 and Nasty C’s Lift As You Rise. Since then, Hanna has continued to carve out her own space in the Southern African music scene. Her debut mixtape, The Girl in the Durag, earned a Best Female nomination at the South African Hip-Hop Awards, while her 2024 EP, “Guilt Free” expanded her sound and earned her multiple playlist placements. In 2025 her hit single “can’t stop” topped 5FM’s Top 40 Chart, featured on BBC’s “This Is Africa”, and earned her an AFRIMA Best Female Artiste in Southern Africa nomination. 2026 saw her electrify the Mzansi NeoSoul stage and join 20 emerging women in music for Tems’ Leading Vibe Initiative in South Africa. Grounded in storytelling and driven by self-expression, Hanna is building a body of work that reflects where she comes from, where she is going, and who she is becoming.
