Biography & Metadata

Joan Jett’s influence can be felt well beyond her storied music career. She is an icon in the truest sense, leaving her mark on fashion, style and cultural touchstones. She came up in a time when rock ’n’ roll wasn’t built for girls — so she kicked the door down in 1975 with her first band, The Runaways. It was the first of many iconoclastic moments in her life, including starting her own independent record label, Blackheart Records, after she was rejected by no less than 23 labels. She formed Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, earned a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and racked up 8 platinum and gold albums with 9 Top 40 singles, including “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ’N’ Roll,” “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.” Jett remains a fearless icon and inspiration across generations. She is authentic, timeless and the coolest person in any room. With the 45th anniversaries of her seminal albums Bad Reputation and I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll, she is poised to influence a new generation.
