Biography & Metadata
Loretta Lynn, the undisputed Queen of Country Music, spent more than 60 years recording and touring, reshaping Nashville with songs drawn from her life as a wife, mother, and working-class woman. With 22 No. 1 singles, she fearlessly tackled topics including marriage, divorce, sex, alcohol, war, female independence, and sexual liberation. Her groundbreaking songs, including “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” “Fist City,” “The Pill,” and “Dear Uncle Sam,” made her a pioneering voice for women in country music. In 2004, Lynn’s Grammy-winning album Van Lear Rose, produced with Jack White, introduced her music to a new generation. Lynn was the first woman named CMA Entertainer of the year in 1972, earned three competitive Grammys, a Lifetime Achievement Award, Kennedy Center Honors, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Her autobiography became a New York Times bestseller bestselling book and Oscar-nominated film. She released over 50 studio albums. Loretta passed away in October 2022, and her life serves as a powerful example of resilience, independence, and the courage to speak one’s truth.
