Biography & Metadata
S.J. Karam (born Salim Karam, Lebanon, October 1965) began his musical journey at age 10, learning classical guitar. While he studied guitar for two years, his true passion was electronic music, influenced by pioneers like Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, and Kraftwerk. This passion led him to explore keyboards, starting with a Casio PT-1 in 1979, and later composing simple electronic tunes on upgraded gear. Balancing music with his career as an IT professional, S.J. delved into MIDI and computer music in 1992 with his first synthesizer, the Korg M1. This iconic workstation became central to his debut album, Love Letter, a soft ambient instrumental album inspired by his love for his wife, Lilian. Originally created in the 1990s, the album was re-recorded in 2012 using modern tools. Over the years, S.J. has explored diverse musical styles. His second album, Infinite Loop (2013), is an electronic concept album reminiscent of Jean-Michel Jarre’s style. His third album, Simplicity (2016), was entirely produced on mobile devices using Korg Gadget, showcasing his innovation in music production. Known for blending vintage and modern electronic sounds, S.J. continues to craft music that resonates with both nostalgia and creativity, captivating listeners with his unique approach to electronic and ambient melodies.
