Biography & Metadata
Alex Mandel is a songwriter and composer whose work bridges indie songwriting and film. He wrote songs for Brave (Original Soundtrack) performed by Julie Fowlis, and has since scored films including The Inventor, East Side Sushi, and Paper Bag Plan, with his songs performed by Marion Cotillard, Matt Berry, Stephen Fry, and Daisy Ridley. In the Bay Area, Mandel emerged as a fixture of the indie scene—fronting The Echo Falls and The Fingers—and later as musical director for NPR’s Snap Judgment LIVE, performing alongside Black Thought on stages from Oakland’s Paramount Theatre to the Brooklyn Academy of Music. His latest single, “Annabelle” is a classic story song in the tradition of early dire straits, featuring some tasty clean Strat riffs.
