Mark Rae

Mark Rae started his musical journey in the mid 1980's, driven by a love of soul, hip hop and funk, it wasn't long before sampling and DJ culture took over his life. The adventure reached critical mass in Manchester in the early 1990's. Various club nights were created, followed by a record shop, Fat City, which in turn led to the creation of the independent record label, Grand Central. Mark has written an autobiography called Northern Sulphuric Soulboy, which was released in 2015. This was followed in 2021 by The Caterpillar Club, Mark's first novel, a project which is backed with an instrumental soundtrack. Mark's second novel, New Town Ghosts, was released with its accompanying 10 song soundtrack, in April of 2025. Mark is currently working on his third novel that will complete the Simon Radcliffe trilogy. This forthcoming book is set in Manchester in the early 90's. Expect a creative culmination of the last decade of Mark's literary and musical adventures. This project is scheduled for release in 2027. Watch this space.
