Biography & Metadata
Recognised for 'whipping up a storm with Vivaldi', La Serenissima is 'one of Britain's best-loved chamber orchestras' (The Telegraph). The group uncovers neglected music, with repertoire edited from source by founder and violinist Adrian Chandler OSI. Established in 1994, recordings feature on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM and international radio, in advertising (Beats, 2022) and film (Portrait of a Lady on Fire, 2020). Two Gramophone Awards for 'Baroque Instrumental'—The French Connection (2010) and The Italian Job (2017)—follow a UK Classical Chart topper in 2018 (Vivaldi x2). The 2015 Four Seasons has over 1.1 million monthly Spotify listeners—'potentially the most streamed interpretation ever' (Gramophone). YouTube outreach, Emerging Artist Chairs, podcast 'Discovering Vivaldi' (2022) and the groups new Patreon extend the ensemble's reach. Performing across the UK and internationally—London Festival of Baroque Music, MustonenFest (Estonia), Handel-Festspiele (Germany) and Cervantes Festival (Mexico)—the group gave the UK premiere of Brescianello's Tisbe (2018) and the modern premiere of Caldara's Lucio Papirio Dittatore (2019). Its 'exquisite playing' (The Guardian) features in two Monteverdi productions at Longborough Festival Opera. The 30th Anniversary saw a Wigmore Hall Residency—'The A-Z of the Italian Baroque'—and a Vivaldi Opus 8 for the 300th Anniversary of its Amsterdam publication (2025). His Excellency The Ambassador of Italy to the UK is Honorary Patron.
