Biography & Metadata

Bnnyhunna (Benjamin Ankomah) is an award-winning Dutch/Ghanaian artist who grew up in South East Amsterdam. Facing early challenges, he found solace in music, learning piano, drums, and guitar in church. Shaped by a diverse musical upbringing and icons like Fela Kuti, Yusef Dayes, Kendrick Lamar, Bnny developed a distinctive sound. After leaving high school, he pursued music full-time, collaborating with artists such as RIMON, Asake and Jose James, taking on roles in writing, producing, and performing. His fusion of jazz, hip hop, R&B, and afro—rooted in his West-African background—has earned him recognition as a rising star. Bnnyhunna’s debut project SINTHA (2021) accelerated his career: selling out his first headline show with Kokoroko as surprise act, gaining support from Highsnobiety, VICE, and Complex, and performing at North Sea Jazz, Montreux Jazz Festival, and Down The Rabbit Hole while touring Europe with his band. Through his art, Bnnyhunna challenges the contemporary status quo, aiming to stimulate all senses and explore new artistic spaces through photography, videography, and poetry. His goal is to build an inspiring community that reflects his values and worldview. In October 2024, he released his debut album ECHOES OF PRAYER—a spiritual conversation with God—earning international acclaim from Rolling Stone Africa, Afromixx, and BBC 1. In 2025, the album won the prestigious Edisons Pop Award for Soul/R&B/Funk and is being considered for a Grammy nomination.
