Biography & Metadata
Benjamin Ekow Otoo (born August 20th 1998), known professionally as Benicio is a British-Ghanaian Hip-Hop recording artist. Born in London, he grew up in Walthamstow with his parents and older sisters. Due to this he was exposed to a large variety of music through his family members such as Highlife, Gospel, Reggae, R&B, Grime and Hip-Hop. At the age of 11 he moved to Ghana with one of his sisters to stay with his Father after which his parents got divorced. Moving to Ghana exposed him to more genres of music such as HipLife, Azonto and Afrobeats which would later become a huge influence on his sound. He started rapping at the age of 13 when he witnessed one of his friends participate in a school competition. This inspired him to start writing lyrics of his own and perform them to his friends in class. After graduating, he went on to start releasing music including his first EP titled ‘WHEN WE GET THERE: A Prelude To A Beautiful Day’ and ‘Dreams Worth Fighting For’ alongside T$G and FJace as part of the RUDEWRLD collective. The latter went on to peak at number 15 on the Top Albums Chart All Genres in Ghana and number 5 on the Top Albums Chart World Genre also in Ghana. In 2021, he relocated back to the UK to continue to peruse music as a professional career. He rebranded himself and changed his stage name to Benicio. So far he’s remastered and released his 2020 single ‘For Now’ which will serve as the first single for his upcoming debut mixtape ‘A Beautiful Day’.
