Biography & Metadata
Gretta Ziller grew up on a farm in the Upper Murray region of Victoria, started violin at three, and eventually found her way to the Melbourne Conservatorium to study opera. Somewhere between the paddock and the concert hall, she started writing songs, and she hasn't stopped since. Now Melbourne based, Gretta makes alt-country and Americana music that carries the dirt and the distance of where she came from. Her powerful alto, equal parts grit and warmth, has earned her Golden Guitar and CMC Music Award nominations, Double J and ABC Country radio support, and a place at AmericanaFest in Nashville as the first recipient of the CMAA Academy of Music Scholarship. Across four albums and a catalogue of originals, she writes the kind of songs that feel like they've been lived in, honest, unhurried stories about real people and real places. Her fifth album is on the way. She also plays bagpipes. It makes sense when you hear it.
