Ceyhun Kaya

CEYHUN KAYA Ceyhun Kaya was born in 1979 in Samsun, a town at the coast of the Black Sea in Turkey. This is where he started to play the Bağlama and the Kaval. In the year 2000 he moved to Ankara, where he followed his passion for music by adding the flute, bouzouki, trumpet and other instruments to his repertoire. As his main instruments however, he chose the clarinet and soprano saxaphone. He developed his free imporvisation style autodidactically, by interweaving different musical styles from Anatolia, Caucasus, the Middle East and Southeast Europe, thereby creating his own unique interpretation. During this process, he entcountered the Roma- and Ladino music, as well as Klezmer music, which then became prominent for his style. In 2007 he moved to Istanbul, where he started to play Rembetiko music; a music style that he admired since his early childhood. He grew an ever since rising interest in Repetetive music (Philip Glass, Steve Reich), and the scandinavian Jazz scene. Since many years now, Ceyhun Kaya has played in concerts all over Europe (mainly in Turkey, Germany, Austria, France, Italy and Greece). Besides his participation in different music projects in Berlin and Istanbul, he is currently working on a solo album.
