Biography & Metadata
Somewhere between Brighton and a woodland hut in Sachsen, Germany, Tim Howarth makes music that tries to tell the truth. The work spans thirty years, a BAFTA nomination, sync placements across the BBC, ITV, CBS and Fox, and commissions for Rolls Royce and Aston Martin. None of it changed what he's actually listening for. As a composer, producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist he leads the small indie production studio 7.83hz — a name borrowed from the frequency of the earth's own pulse, which tells you something about how seriously he takes the idea of slowing down. The Sachsen woodland is part of that. An eco project, a deliberate retreat, a place where the wifi is bad and the thinking is slower and better. His latest records — I Surrender and the piano album The Melancholy of Habitual Hope — were both made from that same conviction: that a song tells you what it needs, if you're quiet enough to hear it. He has played keyboards for Thee Orphans, collaborated with Clare Grogan and Jimmy Pursey, written for some of the world's most recognisable brands, and spent three decades placing music across major networks on both sides of the Atlantic. He's still not entirely sure any of that is the point.
