Mēl

Born in Tema but raised in Accra, Ghana, Akua Boa-Amponsem (aka Mēl) was inspired to learn about production by Dj Kwamzy. Further inspiration came through Øbed (SuperJazzClub), Rvdical the Kid among others who like to explore sound outside mainstream genres. Mēl is also driven and fascinated by the intricate timings and polyrhythms of highlife music. Starting as a guitarist, the budding producer enjoys ambient music and RnB, alternative, afro soul, and hip-hop music genres. A member of the 99PHACES collective, the producer and composer debuted with 233 Shokoto by CozyPols. Mēl has contributed to projects such as SO WE MADE A TAPE by 99PHACES, and Baaba J and Moliy's Spotify Created by Women song, coproducing alongside Yimeeka. She is passionate about having more women in the music industry and aims to bring up more women in the male-dominated industry. This is evident in her first project titled "for MELanin giRLiEs".
