Biography & Metadata

Sharine is the neoclassical piano project of composer Marcos Sainz, inspired by the stage persona of his mother, Charina “Sharine” Zaragoza, a Columbia Records singer-songwriter and Miss Philippines in the 1970s. With minimalist piano melodies and gentle soundscapes, Sharine creates a meditative space for listeners to reflect, grieve, and find joy. Born in the Philippines and raised in Madrid, Marcos grew up surrounded by music. His father, Lucas Sainz, was the founder and guitarist of @Los Pekenikes, the Spanish band that once opened for The Beatles. While his upbringing was steeped in musical brilliance, his journey across continents instilled a sense of longing that resonates deeply in his compositions. Leaving home at 17 to study in the United States, Marcos’s music reflects his personal story—a search for connection, belonging, and healing. Now a father of two daughters, Marcos channels his present-day joy into Sharine’s work, offering music that soothes and uplifts. Each piece invites listeners to pause, breathe, and connect with their inner selves, transforming emotions of loss and hope into a shared sense of comfort. Through Sharine, Marcos honors his mother’s legacy while carving a path of his own—offering music that acknowledges pain but radiates light and connection.
