Biography & Metadata

You might think that "Long Lost Brothers" is the name for a band of guys who found each other through music and bonded over writing and playing together. It's not. "Long Lost Brothers" is a solo artist, Bernard Chan, who resides in suburbs of Toronto. The name is meant to convey the concept of the global human family and need for reconciliation. It's meant to be a reminder that we are all related to each other, we are all "in this together", and we should all be looking after one another, as if we were family. Bernard Chan was born in Hong Kong and his family immigrated to Canada when he was a young child. Raised in the greater Toronto area, he started classical piano lessons at age 7, which continued for the next 11 years, and resumed again in his mid-20's. It was a Christmas gift he received when he was 13 years old, given to him by his siblings, that changed his life - a piano songbook for Rush's "Grace Under Pressure" album. Learning how to play beloved rock songs on the piano started a lifelong passion. Self-taught on the guitar and drums, Bernard has always had music in his life - from high school, through university, graduate school, and later in life as a musician on various worship teams at church. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, he and his church bandmates decided to try and record worship songs remotely as a ways of staying connected during the isolation. In the years that followed, Bernard delved deeper into the creative process for writing and producing music.
