Biography & Metadata

Composer Brad Breeck brings his love of punk and indie rock to his work as a film and TV composer. He emerged to acclaim, winning the 2016 ASCAP Screen Music Award for Outstanding Original Score in a Comedy Series for his work in the beloved Disney animated series Gravity Falls. His other scores include Cartoon Network's We Bare Bears, Disney's The Owl House, Netflix's Glitch Techs, and Netflix/DreamWorks' Voltron: Legendary Defender. In 2025, he scored StuGo before supplying music for the 2026 animated spin-off series Stranger Things: Tales from '85. Born in 1978, Breeck grew up in Illinois, listening early on to Christian heavy metal and punk. After high school, he studied at the California Institute of the Arts, eventually earning a Master of Fine Arts in 2003 with a focus on composition. While there, he formed the experimental noise-pop outfit the Mae Shi, gigging and releasing several albums. Although he took a step back from the band to focus on his scoring work, he stayed active in rock and in 2011 also formed the band Skull Tape. As a composer, he started out supplying music for several episodes of the Disney Channel anthology series Shorty McShorts' Shorts, along with installments of Nickelodeon's Random! Cartoons. He also scored Nickelodeon's Fanboy & Chum Chum (2009–2014) and the animated series Bondi Band (2010-2012). However, it was his work composing both the main theme song and score for creator/show-runner Alex Hirsch's Disney animated series Gravity Falls that proved his breakthrough. From 2011 through to its end in 2014, he scored every episode, helping to define the show's blend of quirky indie pop and spooky atmosphere. From there, he moved on to more animated productions, including Disney's Star vs. the Forces of Evil (2015–2019), Cartoon Network's We Bare Bears (2015–2019), the Netflix/DreamWorks' reboot series, Voltron: Legendary Defender (2016–2018), In 2020, he returned to the Bare Bares, supplying the soundtrack for the film adaptation of We Bare Bares: The Movie. He also scored Netflix's Glitch Techs (2020–2021), Disney's The Owl House (2020–2023), and Nickelodeon's The Smurfs series. He supplied the soundtrack for Disney's 2023 buddy comedy series Kiff, director Ryan Gillis' 2025 series StuGo, and 2026's animated spin-off of Netflix's Stranger Things, Stranger Things: Tales from '85. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
