Biography & Metadata
Intellectual Dark Wave is the alias of a guy named Matt who plays an 80's-inspired mix of industrial grit and melodic schmaltz, drawing equally from Luther Vandross, Vince Gill and Depeche Mode. IDW first debuted on youtube with synthpop tunes mocking conservative ideologues like Jordan Peterson and Steven Crowder. With a boost from youtube stalwarts like Sam Seder, Thought Slime and The Serfs, IDW began to find his audience. With an ADHD-fueled restlessness, IDW kept building on his synthpop core, incorporating metallic riffs, jazzy harmonies, rubbery basslines and steel guitar twang.
