Biography & Metadata
Kunuku is a Chinese-Indo and Dutch, Lisbon-based multi-instrumentalist and producer, that draws from afrobeat, hip hop, jazz, pop and R&B to translate people's emotions into groovy sounds. Kunuku's primary instrument is the bass. He has played live with artists such as GOSTO, Rilan & The Bombardiers, ATKD, FATA BOOM, and produced with artist like Benjamin Fro, Maddy Moreah, Yana Liza, Noa Lauryn, Vasto RDL, JO BISSA and Swilaw. Since moving to Portugal to pursue his own style and sound, Kunuku has been making the kind of music that speaks to his heart - the kind that allows him and his collaborators to process and transform their life experiences. Born in the Netherlands, to a Dutch father and Chinese mother, and raised in the island of Bonaire, in the Caribbean, he grew up in a Latin music environment. The combination of his mixed background and constant movement, across different cultures and countries, reflects the artist's way of blending different cultures - in life and in music. On Bonaire, 'kunuku’ is a piece of land away from society - a place where nature can run wild and free. Kunuku is currently working on various collaborations, to be released in 2024. His main influences are Inflo producing for Little Simz, SAULT & Cleo Sol. Tom Excell from Nubiyan Twist & Onipa. And Blake Mills.
